My Clipsal C-Bus Projects
Reef Hotel Casino Gaming Area and Pool Upgrade with Clipsal Dimmer racks.
On this project we replaced all the existing high power dimmer racks with Clipsal dimmer racks.
We also installed 2 automation controllers to give individual control over lighting groups.
Thes groups could be controlled by wall mounted Samsung tablets mounted on the wall in suitable locations.
As part of the project, we installed the automation to control the lighting LED lighting behind the marble and feature walls. The colour theme of these walls can be changed to reflect community events.
Port Douglas AFL Grounds Lighting Upgrade C-Bus Control.
Four pre-fabricated steel pole were installed around the field and nine 2000 watt metal halide flood lights were installed.
The lights were switched in 3 groups the first being for training mode and the other two for competition.
C-Bus was the most cost effective means of controlling the lights. It required 1 category 5 underground cable to be run between poles and a 4 channel C-Bus relay in each control panel at each pole. We were able to stagger the switching of each bank by 10 seconds to limit starting currents. Scenes were created for the required modes. The control panels for the project were built in Cairns by Northern Specialist electrical, fitted out in their workshop and then transported to site.
Clipsal Headquarters Cairns C-Bus Installation
We specialise in C-Bus products and Dali control. C-Bus can be used in domestic or commercial installations. We were chosen by Clipsal to carry out the electrical, datacomms, automation, security and audio visual.
A C-Bus system was chosen to control the lighting and audio. A Clipsal multi room audio system was installed to distribute audio on 5 separate zones throughout the building with individual control for each zone via a DLT. TV and video were distributed via a Clipsal Starserve system to allow for video to be streamed to all parts of the building. A security camera at the entrance can be monitored throughout the building. Security is handled by a 16 zone Clipsal Home C-Bus enabled security panel which is programmed to switch off all lighting after a short time delay and to switch on all lighting in the event of an alarm. Clipsal Titanium product was used for the datacomms. Clipsal Datacomms product comes with a lifetime warrant if it is installed by a Clipsal certified datacomms installer.
Dali control is more suited to commercial installations and can be integrated with Dali/C-bus gateway to give you flexibility in your installation.
Aboriginal Cultural Park C-Bus Automation
As maintenance contractors for the park we were asked to design and install a C-Bus system to automate their manual firing of the fireball used for the night show. The fireball was created by discharging 9 kilos of LP gas instantly through a specially designed manifold. The electrical part of the installation was carried out by Taipan Electrical who installed all the safety interlocks and solenoids. The fireball had to be fired from the top end of the park. The most cost effective way to achieve this was to use C-Bus. This only required 1 category 5 cable to be run from the control panel to the firing panel. The unit is armed via a key switch and a ready signal is sent back to the control panel when the unit can then be fired. The system was unique to Australia and was fully approved by Gas Authorities. The end result provides a very impressive display.
Reef Hotel Casino Cairns Ballrooms Refurbishment C-Bus Installation
We worked closely with Brad Weber from FNQ Electrical and Casino engineers on this project. Brad carried out the electrical work and calculation of lighting loads. Most of the lighting loads were high and needed to be dimmed. We chose to use Clipsal C-Bus 12 channel 10 amp dimmers to control the lighting. We installed a colour touch screen and 3 DLT’s to control the lighting. We created several scenes for different ballroom functions. The 2 ballrooms could operate independently or as 1 large function room. We created a join function so that the scenes would control both ballrooms. Control is also possible via an iPad.

We carried out the complete installation on this project to the owners design criteria.
A custom built switchboard built by Northern Specialist Electrical (Cairns) was used on this project which incorporated the circuit protection, lightning and surge protection, C-Bus control, generator changeover equipment and energy monitoring.
A combination of Clipsal 2000 profile and Saturn switches and power points were installed throughout.
Some of the heating and cooling was connected to an off peak tariff.
Power usage can be monitored locally or remotely via the computer network.
C-Bus scenes can be set remotely from a smart phone.

Marlin Coast Neighborhood Centre DALI Control system
DALI Control a Clipsal product was used to control the lighting on this project in conjunction with Kevin Smith Electrical.
Using DALI control on this job allowed us to have different functionality of the lighting depending on the time of day. As it was to be used by several community groups the system had to be simple to use. Each room had 4 push buttons on a stainless steel plate. They consisted of 30% brilliance, 75% brilliance, 100% and off. If the centre was used out of hours after 2 hours the lights would slowly dim and go off or they could be reset by pushing the switch again. Arming the security panel turned all the general internal lighting off. This building was designed to have a high energy efficiency rating.
Ergon Energy Management Trial using C-bus to control energy Loads
Ergon are trialling several methods of controlling domestic loads during peak periods.
We were asked to supply and install a C-Bus system in a laboratory situation to control loads such as air conditioning, pool filter, clothes dryer, hot water and dishwasher. The load can be controlled locally via pre-determined scenes depending on load shedding required or remotely via a Clipsal Wiser. The Wiser can indicate actual load of individual appliances within the installation and can be accessed as a Web page via a PC, I-Phone or I-Pad.
Kewarra Beach Resort installation of C-Bus and Dali control system
We worked with Electrical Contractor David Rudd on this project.
The lighting on this project was controlled by a combination of C-Bus and DALI control. Using DALI on this project allowed us to individually address and control light fittings. This system gives the flexibility to change the switching configuration of the lighting at a later date without having to physically alter the wiring. A touch screen was installed to give staff full control of the installation.
